Description

On the southern side of Wenonah Head the shoreline curves gently to the south for 6 km to Valla Head, with the long Valla Beach, NSW in between, and two small beaches at the southern head. Valla Beach is one of the longer beaches in this region and sweeps in a broad arc for 5.2 km between the heads, with only the usually closed mouth of Oyster-McGraths Creek breaking the run of the backing dunes. The low vegetated dunes and the two creeks back most of the beach which is in turn is backed by the North Coast railway line. In fact one of the few places you will see a beach from the train is through the gap for the creek mouth. The beach receives waves averaging 1.5 m and usually has an inner bar cut by regular rips, with an outer bar developing during storms, particularly to the north. The beach can only be reached from Wenonah Head in the north and Valla in the south.
